This in from Transforma:
Idea Sharing and Brainstorming Session at Antenna
3161 Burgundy Street [between Louisa and Clouet Streets]
Saturday, June 7, 4p – 6p
Transforma Projects is a collective of artists and creative professional that was formed after Hurricane Katrina as a means of supporting, nurturing and celebrating creative practices that impact the social and physical environment. The initiative explores how art-making can intersect with other sectors such as education, health, environment, and community development. Transforma Projects recently launched the first round of the Creative Recovery Mini-Grant Program to support projects existing at the intersection of art, social justice and recovery in New Orleans and is in the process of developing a series of monthly convenings. The National Resource Team invites you to this “Idea Sharing and Brainstorming Session” as a means of assessing what needs and desires exist within the community. These monthly forums are intended to focus on topics and issues relevant to you and your community, so your participation in this discussion is essential.
Prior to this gathering, Transforma will be participating in events for Homer Plessy and everyone is encouraged to join. The community will gather at Douglass High School, 3820 St. Claude Avenue, at 10am and process to the intersection of Press & Royal Streets where Homer Plessy was arrested on June 7, 1892. There will be discussion of civil rights and educational equity with students from Douglass, students from the NOCCA summer program as well as other students and adults in the neighborhood. There will be a variety of arts workshops and plenty of food. Please spread the word to friends and neighbors.
All are welcome and encouraged to participate.
