ARTinACTION is now AORTA Projects!

The organization previously known as Art in Action is now AORTA Projects. Check out their new weblog and new installations premiering this fall (disclosure - I'm doing one.) The map's right there on the front page. AORTA's had a busy year, with many great projects aimed at reactivating devastated areas. Maps maps everywhere!

Field Guide at the Milne Boys Home

This Saturday July 26th, 3-6pm, is the opening reception for Jacqueline Bishop's Art in Action piece, Field Guide. The Milne site is a beautiful historical setting that catches the breezes off the lake, and the oak trees' spread is wide, so don't let the heat keep you from seeing the 5000 birds in Gentilly.

1. Art in Action! A nice piece about Jacqueline Bishop and Art in Action doing an installation at the Milne Boys Home at nola.com. Over 5000 birds now reside on the circular drive, and Jacqueline Bishop discusses her passion.
2. 2-Cent! a new video by the local youth collective, this one in which Kirk Douglas calls for an apology for slavery! 2-Cent recently went to L.A. to pick up an award from MTV! and got some one-on-one time with Mr. Douglas.
3. 2-Cent again! mostly a promo piece that solicits support for an event (called Project N.O.) it also expresses how New Orleans looks through the eyes of young people looking for opportunity.

Art in Action event

The Milne Boys Home is the site of the newest Art in Action installation, this Saturday, by NOCCA visual arts students, the result of Elizabeth Underwood's residency at NOCCA this past week. The installation will be on the grounds of this historic but structurally compromised school, which still has the original segregated facilities intact inside.

NYFA Current: the New Orleans Issue

New York Foundation for the Arts newest issue of it's online magazine Current is all about New Orleans. The issue includes:

- A roundtable with Ron Bechet, Allan Eskew, Courtney Egan, and Joy Glidden on what it means/take to be a NOLA artist/arts administrator in post-K NOLA
- Original artwork created specifically for this issue by Kyle Bravo and Dan Tague
- An essay on contemporary public art by Elizabeth Underwood, the founding Director of NOLA's own "ArtInAction"

You do need to register with the website to view the magazine. It's a short process and worth it!
